Frequently Asked Questions

What are the primary objectives of the WGBA?

Simply, we seek to make a difference. On a more complex level, we’re seeking to provide easy ways for businesses to get involved in the modern environmental movement, provide marketing and PR benefits, and ultimately minimize human impact on global climate change.

Why did you start it?

Launched in 2007, the WGBA is rooted in the belief that business owners want to do the right thing for our planet and are positioned to do so, but may be reluctant to risk profits along the way. The WGBA demonstrates that ‘going green’ is timely and profitable, as well as socially responsible. Specifically, the organization serves to connect and coordinate environmentally-conscious businesses, with the goal of attracting new business for all members.

What services do you offer?

Primary offerings include: Marketing, Education and Accreditation. Specific services include: Advertising; Articles; Awards & Recognition; Blog; Brand Usage; Community Outreach; Consulting; Directory; Events; Green Offerings/ Practices Assessment; Marketing Kits; Networking; Reference Materials; Resources; Seminars; Sponsorship; Syndicated Info; Web Site; and Workshops.

How much does it cost to join?

Business Membership fees vary based on the number of employees. A business with 1-10 employees pays $295 annually or $29.50 per month. A business with 11-50 employees pays $495 annually or $49.50 per month. A business with 51-200 employees pays $795 annually or $79.50 per month. A business with 201-500 employees pays $1,295 annually or $129.50 per month. Finally, a business with 501 or more employees pays $1,995 annually or 199.50 per month.

Why should I join?

Even for the global warming skeptics, Members can benefit from the short-term and long-term savings you’ll get as a result of recycling, reusing, and optimizing the use of each element you come in contact with on a daily basis in your operations. Further, you can expect to benefit from the advanced marketing benefits available to you.

Specifically, WGBA Members will be introduced to a growing demographic to market your offerings and have something new and positive to discuss, such as:

· Money savings from better choices

· Exposure to like-minded businesses

· Separation from your competition that isn’t “green”

· Eligibility to win an award for your efforts

How will joining the WGBA affect my financial bottom line?

Joining the WGBA will affect your bottom line internally and externally. Once a member, you will learn how to save money on operational expenses within your office and/ or building (ie. energy efficiency and waste solutions), as well as attract new customers and increase overall customer retention by capitalizing on industry-specific green offerings and marketing trends.

How will my business be marketed better as a result of my membership?

Like Chambers of Commerce provide new opportunities on many levels, this organization will do the same and more. There are networking events, annual awards, committees, advertising opportunities, and many more ways to benefit from your membership.

What differentiates the WGBA from other like organizations?

Like the vast majority of our members, we are a for-profit entity uniquely positioned to promote sustainable capitalism. Founded by a marketing expert and directed by a collaborative environmental specialist, the WGBA understands that business’ primary motivation around profit does not negate their sense of environmental responsibility. We are committed to communicating incentives and rewarding best practices associated with going green, rather than fear-mongering or blaming.

If I don’t have a “green” product or business, am I eligible to join?

Of course. We understand that not every business can offer a green product or service. However, we do know that every business can make a difference internally with what is done in every day operations. Contributions can range in size from very small to very large, knowing that cumulatively, small actions lead to big changes.

What type of accreditation does the WGBA provide?

There are four steps in the WGBA membership journey, each of which qualify for an increasing amount of marketing benefits:

  1. New Member
  2. Recognized Member
  3. Accredited Member
  4. Distinguished Accreditation

Are all of your members accredited?

No, joining the WGBA does not automatically accredit your business. In fact, only levels 3 and 4 (Accredited and Distinguished Accreditation, respectfully) qualify as ‘Accredited’.

What legitimizes the WGBA’s accreditation process?

The accreditation process involves a standard, two-prong assessment of a Member’s green offerings and practices. Accredited and Distinguished Accredited members meet and exceed, respectively, a combined percentage of green offerings and practices. This process is overseen by a diverse advisory board of experts in business, finance, science, government, and academia.
